About me

Taking many different challenges for years has made me realize my strengths and weaknesses beside a vast and deep experience in business and tech. Read below. I think you'll find it interesting.

I'm Mehrdad,
a professional freelancer.

I’ve spent all my 20s (and now 30s) behind my desk and lived through 14″ screens giving me years of experience in the fields of technology, business, marketing, sales, project management, customer support, graphic design and software development and helped me find my passion which is motion design and video editing.

Mehrdad Shokri Nasab

17 years in a nutshell

Where it all started

I was 13-14 and started building a weblog. I wanted to have my own design and set of colors. So I played with the codes on Front-page... what a trendy app it was with all the <table>s, <tr>s and <td>s. Using W3Schools, I self-studied HTML, and that was when I made my first project: $10 for an HTML theme!
I moved forward through coding and programming and learned CSS, Javascript, PHP and MySQL and in the meantime started learning SwishMax and Flash MX, the motion design and animation apps of the time, to produce SWF movie files-- they were mostly Lyrics videos! I was also getting my freelance projects and built my own CMS (Yes! My own!). On the other hand, I started learning Photoshop and got hired in a small marketing agency where we designed and printed brochures, business cards, posters and such designs. It was a glamorous time!
That was when I developed my own CMS and published graphic-related content on my very own website like brushes, patterns, etc... what a combo! I started teaching both graphics and programming through online websites as well. The website did grow to be well-known, but I was a kid and unaware of business strategies.

Hired as a developer!

I was about 19 (2011) when I got hired by a Delaware based real estate software developer company, Realtyna, as a UI and PHP developer while I was studying English literature at a university close to my home town. It wasn't easy to move all these things forward, so I decided to pause any further work on my website, freelancing and design projects and focused on this new career.

Moved to business world

Long story short, worked as a developer and customer support for over 1 year and then was promoted to a project manager position. Lasted as a project manager for 2 years and moved to Sales department as a sales person while still managing some of the projects. Sold the products and managed projects as the same time for 1 year and then became the Sales Manager.

Everything was changing so fast!

Stayed the Sales Manager for 2 years and got promoted to become the Executive Vice President of the company, being the Sales Manager at the same time! Due to my responsibilites, I was involved in Marketing (Social media, Google Ads, etc.), Sales, Support, HR and development (Products, updates, etc.). Learned a lot!
After 2 years of working as the EVP, my interests and the companies' misaligned. So after 8 years, I had to leave the company and put an end to "Marvin Sanderson", my staging name!

Not much of a nutshell, was it?

Sorry about that! There's just so much to tell!

How's it going?

With all the experience and exhaustion of working in systems, I went back to my passion: Graphics, Motion Design and Video Editing. I do love to help people, too, so took Tech Master role when possible.
And now through my website, I'm trying to take more clients, expand my freelance business and get to help as many people as possible.

Next steps

I've been designing motion graphics through Apple Motion for my clients for the past while, and the reality is I see the potential I have in this area. So I'm going to start creating products like title templates, generators, etc. and have them sold on the website or other sources!
