Is it only me or do you also see the graphics/texts move and dance to the music/speech playing in the headphones/car?
That’s where motion design starts for me.
Motion designing video elements
One thing I do is creating easy-to-use templates that could be used by dragging and dropping into Final Cut Pro timeline. Supported by my background in graphic design, I draft static elements according to your branding (fonts, colors etc.) to be able to shape an image of what the video would look like after production and then animate the design based on the vibe of your branding guidelines (positions, speed, smoothness etc.)
The design process is done through Pixelmator Pro and the animation is prepared through Apple Motion. I’ll then test and prepare the titles/generators to be ready for Final Cut Pro. The elements will be customizable so you can change the colors, fonts, size, position etc. easily.
Motion designing full video
Some videos like intros, outros and lyrics videos need to be done fully through Apple Motion since it has more customizability options and gives a frame by frame control (keyframes). For those projects, I do the job on Apple Motion fully and have a final file ready to use.
Well, yes, video editing does include partially motion design as well. However, it's not necessarily true for all the projects. There are cases out there that require less of motion and more of enhancing the picture, including color grading/correction, video scope setup, removing errors/extras (trimming) etc. and also audio enhancing like echo/noise removing and leveling. Well, I do all that! But it doesn't end there.
Some videos like training videos, explainers and VSLs require a whole pack of video editing and motion design. Those videos are mostly really nice!
Sometimes my clients send me iPhone-recorded videos and receive a professional VSL/Explainer/Educational/etc. outcome as if it was recorded on an expensive camera. This is all possible when color grading, camera stabilization, audio enhancements etc. are done nicely and the additional graphics including titles, transitions, B-rolls and sound effects keep the audience engaged throughout the video.
